What Every Large Organization Can Learn from Google
Outline
Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and others use about 1% of the world’s electricity to run data centers that power email, web search, e-commerce, streaming, gaming, and other aspects of our digital lives. That’s a lot of electricity, but Google and a few other digital giants have committed to completely decarbonizing their electricity by the end of this decade and helping other companies to do the same. In Google’s case, the pledge to decarbonize is embodied in an ambitious plan to operate data centers and other corporate facilities 24 hours a day and 7 days per week on carbon-free energy (“24/7 CFE”). This paper provides a blueprint for your company to adopt and pursue a 24/7 CFE goal by following Google’s lead.
